The CBFA is led by a 13-member board.  Seven of the board positions are elected by the membership.  Each year two new members of the board are elected at the annual conference for a three-year term.  After his or her first year on the board, one of those individuals is chosen to become the vice-chair/chair-elect of the board; that person then becomes the chair of the board, and then serves an additional year as the immediate past chair.  The year in which each board member’s term ends is given in parentheses.

Six board positions are appointed by the elected members of the board:  the secretary, the treasurer, the director of publications, the program chair, the director of marketing, and the director of conferences. The seven elected members plus the secretary and treasurer make up the voting membership of the board of directors.

Dr. John Duncan, Chair (2018)

j-duncanDr. John B. Duncan serves as the Associate Dean and Professor of Accounting in the College of Business at Anderson University in Anderson, South Carolina. He previously served as the dean of the School of Business and professor of accounting at Charleston Southern University. Dr. Duncan holds a bachelor of business administration in accounting and a master of business administration from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and a doctorate in accountancy from the University of Mississippi. He is a licensed certified public accountant in South Carolina and a Qualified Kingdom Advisor.

Before joining the Charleston Southern faculty in 2003, Dr. Duncan served as assistant professor of accounting at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, where he held the John Luffey Endowed Professorship in Accounting; Dean of the School of Business and director of the Church Finance Institute at William Carey University, and was an assistant professor and chair of the Department of Accounting at Mississippi College.

Dr. Duncan's research has been presented at numerous academic conferences and has been published in several leading accounting and business journals. He received the Outstanding Intellectual Contributions Award in 2003 for the College of Business Administration at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

He serves on the board of directors of the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education, and he is a member of several professional organizations including the South Carolina Association of CPAs, the Institute of Management Accountants and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Dr. Duncan is a founding board member of LifeWorks of Charleston, where he serves as treasurer, and he is a part of the God in the Workplace leadership team. He is also a member of Kingdom Advisors, the Fellowship of Companies for Christ International and the Christian Business Faculty Association.
 

Dr. Jim Dalton, Past Chair (2017)

profiles_dalton 150wDr. Dalton serves as Professor of Accounting at Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) in Mount Vernon, Ohio.  As a Professor of Accounting and as a Certified Public Accountant his primary teaching responsibilities involve teaching accounting to undergraduate and graduate students.  In addition to teaching responsibilities for MVNU he has taught CPA Review for over 20 years, first with a national review course and more recently with two partners in the MDS CPA Review Course.  Dr. Dalton has responsibility for writing, publishing and teaching CPA Review materials in the areas of financial, managerial, governmental, and not-for-profit accounting. Work experience outside teaching includes working as a Controller in the corporate America, as Controller for a university, and as the Business Administrator for the largest Nazarene church in the United States.

Dr. Scott Quatro, Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect (2019)

ScottQuatroHeadShotMasterScott A. Quatro is Professor of Management in the Department of Business Administration at Covenant College where he teaches courses in Management, Organizational Behavior, Strategic Management, Human Resource Management, and Business Ethics.  Dr. Quatro previously served as a Senior Human Resources and Organizational Development Consultant with American Management Systems (then the eleventh largest management consultancy in the world) and a Corporate Human Resource Manager for Payless ShoeSource (the world’s largest family footwear retailer).  Since entering academe Dr. Quatro’s consulting and research work have focused on strategic human resource management, organizational change and transformation, holistic leadership development, and organizational strategy/purpose/spirituality.  His consulting clients have included both Fortune 500 firms and small to mid-sized organizations, including Chattem/Sanofi, Kenco, Kemper, Payless ShoeSource, Southern Champion Tray, FSGBank, Card-Monroe Corporation, BJB Electric, Signal Energy, Johnson & Johnson, and M&M Industries.  He has authored or co-authored a total of 15 journal articles, chapters, papers, and books, including Leadership: Succeeding in the Private, Public, and Not-for-Profit Sectors, which was selected as a Best Academic Book by the American Library Association, and The Manager as Change Agent.  His most recent books are Executive Ethics: Ethical Dilemmas and Challenges for the C-Suite and The Praeger Handbook of Human Resource Management.  Dr. Quatro serves on the Peer Review Boards for the Journal of Business Ethics, and the Journal of Biblical Integration in Business.  He received a BA in English from Pepperdine University, an MBA from the College of William and Mary, and holds a PhD from Iowa State University.  He lives in Lookout Mountain, Georgia.

Dr. Philip serves as an Assistant Professor of Marketing at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN. Dr. Philip was the 2014 conference coordinator.

Dr. Joe Walenciak (2018)Walenciak_Joe

Dr. Joe Walenciak holds a PhD. in Strategic Management from University of Arkansas and has been part of the business faculty at John Brown University since 1982. During that time, he has taught business classes in the undergraduate, degree completion and graduate programs as well as chaired the undergraduate and graduate business programs.

During his time at JBU, Dr. Walenciak has been very involved in SIFE and has seen his JBU SIFE teams achieve a "top four" ranking in the USA twice in the last 8 years.  In 2010, he was named SIFE USA Sam Walton Fellow of the Year and was inducted into the SIFE USA Hall of Fame in 2011.

Dr. Walenciak has led or participated in more than 50 short-term mission/service projects in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Jordan, and Northern Ireland.  He has also designed and led both undergraduate and graduate studies programs in Central America. While on a sabbatical from JBU, he lived in Guatemala and taught at Universidad Francisco Marroquin. During that time he helped launch SIFE in that region and worked with ministry and community development efforts.

Current professional interests of Dr. Walenciak include community development and business accreditation.  He has held national leadership roles with the Christian Business Faculty Association and with the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education.

Dr. Melanie Timmerman (2019)

mtimmermanDr. Timmerman serves as Dean of the Jetter School of Professional Studies at Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Mount Vernon, Oh. She earned a Juris Doctorate degree at Capital University School of Law,  and has a B.A. and M.B.A. from Mount Vernon.  Before becoming dean in 2015, she served as associate dean for accreditation and assessment.  She has also served as the institution’s Title IX coordinator. Dr. Timmerman has served as  an assistant prosecutor, and is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Licking County Bar Association, and the Association of Title IX Administrators.

Dr. David Houghton (2019)

houghton-davidDr. David Houghton serves as the Dean of the Paul Dickinson College of Business at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Before his appointment at OBU, he was a marketing professor and the department chair at Charleston Southern University. He served in a similar capacity at Northwest Nazarene University prior to his service at CSU.

Houghton’s research focuses on a wide range of topics in consumer psychology, managerial decision making and business ethics. His research has appeared in a number of journals, including Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Psychology & Marketing, Marketing Letters, Journal of Consumer Psychology, and Advances in Consumer Research. He serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Biblical Integration in Business and the Society for Consumer Psychology.

Along with Dr. Craig Walker, Houghton serves as a co-advisor for OBU’s Enactus team. Houghton is passionate about helping business students view their careers as a calling and as viewing business as mission. He is a champion for Enactus because it is a powerful way to integrate faith and learning at OBU.

Houghton and his wife have three children. He enjoys serving at Heritage Baptist Church in Shawnee, reading, and playing the bagpipes.


Dr. Robert H. (Bob) Roller, Secretary (2017)

Bob 150wDr. Roller is the Dean of the School of Business and Management at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, CA. He formerly served as the Dean of the Jetter School of Business at Mt. Vernon Nazarene University in Mount Vernon, Ohio; as the President/CEO of the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE); Dean of the School of Business at LeTourneau University in Longview, TX; Chair of the Division of Business at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, NY; and as a faculty member at Kennesaw State University in Georgia and Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK.

Dr. Roller was the 2004 recipient of the CBFA’s Richard C. Chewning Award for Excellence in Biblical Integration and the 2011 recipient of the Barnabas Award.

Dr. Kevin Hughes, Program Chair (2017)

khughesDr. Kevin Hughes is the Associate Dean of Graduate and Professional Business Programs and Professor of Management at Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Mount Vernon, OH, where he has served in a variety of positions since 1988, including five years as an admissions counselor and seven years in financial aid. He earned a Ph.D. from Capella University, an MA from the University of Phoenix, and a BA from Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Dr. Hughes teaches Global Business and has been active in Work and Witness trips to Venezuela, Russia, Argentina, the Philippines, Mexico, Belize, Ghana, Jamaica, Mozambique, and Rwanda. Dr. Hughes was appointed CBFA program chair following the Mount Vernon CBFA conference in 2011, for which he served as the conference chair.

Dr. Julia Underwood, Director of Conferences (2019)

junderwoodDr. Underwood, is a professor in Azusa Pacific University’s School of Business and Management. Her specialty areas include assessing the impact of feedback and follow-up on customer satisfaction, and identifying and amending failure traits within women. Her industry experience with corporations such as BizBuyer.com and George S. May International enhance her expertise in the areas of the advancement of women in business, customer satisfaction, and organizational effectiveness.  Dr. Underwood earned a Ph.D. and an MS in organizational psychology from the California School of Professional Psychololgy and a BA in speech communications from California State University, Fullerton.

Dr. Ryan Ladner, Director of Marketing (2019)

Ryann LadnerDr. Ryan serves as Associate Professor of Marketing and Department Head of Undergraduate Business at John Brown University in Silooam Springs, AR. Dr. Ladner has a D.B.A. from George Fox University, a M.A. from Liberty University, a M.B.A. from Mississippi College, and a B.S.B.A. from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Dr. Margie LaShaw, Treasurer (2018)

mlashawMargie Ness LaShaw joined the Whitworth faculty in 1988 and currently serves as an Associate Professor of Accounting in the School of Business. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Idaho and a Master of Accounting degree from Washington State University. She earned a Doctor of Business Administration degree, with a concentration in accounting, from Anderson University. She is also a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the state of Washington. Her husband and she own and operate a grain and legume farming operation in eastern Washington.  Her teaching areas of interest include financial accounting, international accounting, auditing, and small business management. LaShaw's research interests include international accounting, integration of faith in business, church financial reporting, agribusiness, and accounting teaching pedagogy. She has presented and published in various professional journals including the Journal of Biblical Integration in Business.

Dr. Kent Saunders, Director of Publications (2017)

Dr. Saunders is a Professor of Finance and Economics at Anderson University (SC). He earned his BS in Economics from Ball State University, a MA in Economics from Clemson University, and a PhD in Applied Economics from Clemson University. Before joining the Anderson faculty in 2014, Kent taught at Anderson University (IN), LeMoyne College and Cumberland University. Dr. Saunders served as editor of the Christian Business Academy Review from inception until 2015. Kent was honored by the CBFA with the Chewning Award in 2012.
